Now that we have our little one, what should I do with her? We were perplexed. I just saw her coming out of the womb, covered with blood but smiling; oh sorry, crying ha ha… The nurses took her to the baby warmer. They were saying the baby ate her poop while she was inside the womb, so they needed to extract those out of her stomach. They were suctioning everything out of her stomach with a suction pipe, while others were preparing some paperwork. One of them took some blood samples, and another nurse stamped one of her tiny legs and pressed it against those papers, some biometric thing, I guess. We still have that stamp in our folder. Once the initial treatment was done, they all left and left the two of us, oh sorry, three of us alone in the room. To be frank, I was ready for a battle. But it seemed like we won it without any hassle. Now, we were about to transfer to another room equipped with a bed and some other basic medical equipment. But the baby was taken to be cleaned up. The people were extremely professional, yet my better half wanted me to go with them so that there is no chance of mixing her up with any other infants; funny, right?
Once they gave her back, the nurses started to teach us how to feed her from the breast. They were explaining why infants have difficulties sucking from the milk and why we should be patient and give her time to get accustomed to the new world. Can you imagine, everything she is seeing now is the very first time for her! Everything!! The glass, the table, the light, the air of the room, sounds around her; everything, everything is brand new to her! Every time she was crying, we didn’t have any clue why she was crying, but we were trying to soothe her at our best. The first difficult thing my husband faced was how to swaddle her. She was so tiny, so tiny that he could barely feel her in his lap; and afraid as well! But he was relaxed that if he drops her off his lap, it is his child, not others. Funny, right?
My husband got a very good sleep then; I was also hoping to have the same. The nurses came and checked me and the baby every 30 minutes and told me to have a wonderful sleep. I was like, really? Ha ha… I was given three meals a day, and the food was delicious. My husband had to order food from outside for himself. So, she was born at 2 in the morning, and in the evening, we were like, when can we get back to our home?
There was a little problem, and we were a bit concerned. It was almost 24 hours; she was doing all good; ate and pooped but she didn’t pee yet. I was talking to one of my friends; he was like, don’t leave the hospital now. Do all the necessary servicing first (ha ha…) and then come back. Otherwise, you have to come back here again. Fortunately, the next time when the child expert took her for some other routine checkup, came back and said yes, she peed a lot! We got such relief! We didn’t wait there any longer and left the hospital. Mission successful!
